The Copenhagen Competition
The Faculty of Law hosts an international negotiation competition, "The Copenhagen Competition," which is a competition that gives law students, from various places of the world, a chance to negotiate the Copenhagen Protocol (the replacement for the Kyoto Protocol) before the "real" UN Conference on Climate Change (COP15) takes place in November 2009.
The vision of the competition
The vision of the competition is to let the students illuminate their innovative ideas. The final result of the competition - the draft text - will hopefully inspire governments all over the world in their negotiations at the COP15. The visions, however, goes beyond its perceived societal impact; it is also an opportunity for these top law students to advance their individual and collective scholarship in areas of critical legal analysis of the treaties they draft, negotiation abilities, team work, etc.
The competition is by invitation only
The competition is by invitation only, which has been sent out as of Febrary 1, 2008. The star alliance IARU Universities' Law Faculties are invited to enter with one team each. Moreover, selected universities from regions that are not represented in the IARU star alliance are also invited. The goal is to have 16 teams entering into the competition and having only 8 teams proceeding to Copenhagen where the oral round is held in March, 2009.
