Frequently asked questions about participation
in a moot court competition
Q: Who can participate?
A: All law students at the University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Law can participate.
Q: Will I get any credits for participating?
A: Master students can sit an exam corresponding to 10 or 20 ECTS. It is optional if a student wants to use ECTS credits on a moot court. Bachelor students can elect to sit an exam in a moot court competition instead of writing the Bachelor report.
Q: Do I have to have top marks to get in?
A: No. Presentation skills, language skills and your personality are equally important.
Q: Is it difficult to get in?
A: The difficulty depends on the number of applicants. Last year almost all applicants were entered into a team.
Q: What is the workload?
A: The workload depends on which moot court you participate in. However, a workload corresponding to two subjects must be anticipated in the autumn term. Therefore, students participating in a moot court competition beginning in the autumn, usually only study one subject in the fall. In the spring term you can have a full course load.
Q: What are the benefits from participating?
A: Numerous! These are a few:

You are taught writing skills, practical usage of the law and legal method, which may help you in your remaining exams and future work

Presentation skills, how to handle nervousness, self confidence, teamwork etc. (taught by professional rhetorician)

You will get to travel, earn international recognition, recognition by the top Danish Law firms, get a network and friends for life
Q: When should I apply?
A: Watch for dates on www.jur.ku.dk/processpil/english/. Most moot courts have application dates in the beginning of September while a few others have later dates.
Q: What should I write in my application?
A: Write something about your experience, why you want to participate, your English skills and French skills if you want to participate in EU or Jean Pictet. Date of birth, email address, phone number/mobile number. Transcript and information on relevant courses and studies abroad.
Q: What will it cost me?
A: As the competitions are sponsored travel expenses (flight tickets, hotels, local transport) are paid for. You will also get about 440 kr, per day (2008) to cover meals.
